Reaching Out and Making a
Difference in Our Community
Click above to watch a message from the Fairfax Law Foundation's President.
Established by the Fairfax Bar Association in 1982, the Fairfax Bar's charitable Foundation supports local programs to improve the community's access to justice and promote education regarding the legal system. The Foundation offers programs that allows members of the FBA to give back and make a difference in our community.
Our programs are wide ranging from making a difference in the life of school students to ensuring everyone, no matter what economic background, has an equal access to justice. The Fairfax Law Foundation is making a real difference in the Northern Virginia region.
The Legal Community Making a Difference
The support from law firms, individual attorneys, families of attorneys and other legal professionals enables the Foundation to successfully sustain service to our community. Through continued donations of volunteer time, financial support, or a combination of both, we will continue to enhance the legal profession in our own neighborhood.
Businesses and Corporations Making a Difference
The Fairfax Law Foundation needs the support of area businesses to reach those who ask for our help. Your business can contribute to the Foundation directly or to a special event through sponsorship, a silent auction donation, or another in-kind donation. For questions about sponsorship packages, contact Courtnie Norris at 703-246-2084 or cnorris@fairfaxbar.org.
Supporting the Foundation's Fundraising Campaign
The Fairfax Law Foundation has three fundraising campaigns - First Hour Campaign (to read why this campaign is so important, go to this link), the Capital Campaign and the Dues Check-Off Campaign. These are important initiatives that enable the Foundation to continue the many works to the citizen of Fairfax County. An up-to-date donor list for the Capital Campaign can be found here. Getting Involved: Volunteers Needed
The Fairfax Law Foundation is seeking several attorney volunteers for the following programs:
Model Judiciary Program The annual Model Judiciary Program, in association with the FBA and the Honorable Judge Stanley P. Klein, needs attorney-mentors to teach Fairfax County high school students how to try a case. Fact patterns and roles for student witnesses are provided. No legal research will be necessary. No trial experience is required - just your insights, your passion, and a little bit of time after school between mid-November and mid-January of 2010. You'll be surprised how rewarding it is to see your student team in action. Win or lose, you and your team will enjoy a terrific civics lesson for all involved. For more information, please contact the Program's Chair coordinator, Yama Shansab, of Walton & Adams, P.C., at yshansab@walton-adams.com.
Devonshire Program
Volunteer attorneys are needed for a one-hour session that is designed to reach out toe juveniles who are in trouble with the law. Click here for more information and session dates.
Court Tour Program Attorney guides are needed to lead students around the courthouse, to interact with court personnel, and to participate in a mock trial. Click here for more details and for court tour dates.
We have several events throughout the year that, with your support, allows the Foundation to thrive and continue the programs that make a difference in the community.
